A famous late-ripening Italian grape variety for red wine. The grapes have a high acidity level and they need a long ripening season to fully mature. The most famous Nebbiolo’s come from the two wine regions in Piemonte near Alba: Barolo and Barbaresco. The wines have a dark colour, are high in tannin, acid and extract. After 10 years the wines can still be black. The wines have a complex taste and smell of concentrated black fruit, mushrooms, tar and sometimes even truffles. But you can also find tones of violet in a Barolo. |
